Dresses, Liberace and Aquaman

It's the season for me driving myself crazy trying to find a dress to wear for various Christmas parties, that won't make me look like a hooker or a powder puff. Both styles are big in Hellhole, judging by the content of the (four) stores. Tagging along for my futile dress-hunt, was a good friend that we all call Toto.

Toto is, in his own words, gayer than Liberace at a trucker convention.

After an eternity of trying on one outfit more hideous than the other, I finally gave up and decided to just use my dress from last year with new accessories. “Oh, you really should,” said Toto. “That dress is dead sexy.”

I froze.

Women dress up all purty for two reasons.
1) to attract attention from men, because… Well, just because.
2) To emphasize our good bits so that we can rub it in other women’s faces (no, not like that, you pervert).
However, if Toto – who is gayer than Aquaman dressed up in a very gay, pink spandex superhero outfit – thinks that my dress is sexy, there’s obviously something terribly, horribly wrong with it.

So maybe I’ll go shopping again later this week…

I know it's a stereotype, but it seems gay men usually know what they're talking about when it comes to style. I don't think Toto judging your dress sexy is such a bad thing.

I have a gay male friend who blows this stereotype all to pieces, though. If he told me I looked sexy I would have to wonder if I smelled like a buffalo wing or something.

Toto definitly falls into the same category as your friend. And he knows that, so every once in a while he compliments our outfits just to freak us out. lol

I was talking to a co-worker about this how she likes to wear heals and do all the other stuff to look pretty. My response was,
I could care less. Natural is good.

You could always take a picture of yourself in the dress and let us decide.

If you dare.

MWAH-HA-HA! *lighting flash and thunder crash*

the cubicle reverend - yeah, natural is good, but sometimes you just feel like being a little bit unnatural:D

Ticknart - I'm brave, but I don't think I'm that brave. I'm scared of Jazz. lol

I am the best shopping partner you could ever have. It pains me when people need my valuable fashion advice and I am unable to assist in person.

Maybe you shouldn't shop in Hellhole, Hickville.

Jazz - I know. Deep down you're just a big softie:P

Mist1 - I don't really think that anyone should. lol

the one thing i hate about parties is that im never sure what to wear.

i went to my husbands xmas work party last week, and his boss's wife was wearing the perfect outfit.

she had on brown leather knee high boots, without much heel, very simple and classy; dark colored hose; a black and white herringbone print wool skirt, so it looked kinda grey from a distance; a burgundy button up sweater, with a tank top/chemise under it, similar color; and she had on natural makeup and had her hair pulled back in a very classy ponytail. and i think she had on a xmas-inspired brooch or earrings or something, but it wasnt gaudy or covered in glitter.

she looked xmas-y and winter-y, 'seasonally appropriate'; she looked classy yet sexy, because the sweater was not buttoned all the way to the neck, and the tank top was slightly low cut; but most of all she looked comfortable, relaxed, and happy. she was wearing comfortable shoes but still looked nice. she could stand around for hours and talk to people (which she did) and i could never stand around in heels for so long.

so, thats my suggestion, for a classy party outfit, and thats what im going to be wearing at every holiday party from now on.

good luck.
